What is the advantage of laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is the only procedure proven to permanently reduce hair growth. The laser uses a wide beam that treats many hairs at once instead of treating hair-by-hair like electrolysis. Because of this, large areas such as your legs, arms, or back can be treated in a short period of time. You will see results that are far different than tweezing, waxing, shaving, chemical depilation, or other temporary methods.
What do treatments feel like?
When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. The treatment does have a slight prickly or stinging sensation. However, since every person’s level of sensitivity is different and treatment areas may vary, a topical numbing gel is ALWAYS recommended by Bliss Laser Spa. We will provide you with complete instructions on how to obtain and use this product. We endeavor to go above and beyond, so we ALWAYS provide localized cooling packs prior to the procedure for your increased comfort.
How many treatments will I need?
Most areas require 5-8 treatments. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors – hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.
What Happens to the skin after the laser treatment?
Temporary, slight reddening of the skin is normal. There can also be some localized swelling of the follicle. This is a normal reaction. The redness/swelling usually subsides within a few minutes to a few hours and the skin returns to normal. Since the laser is not invasive in any way, you will be able to continue with your normal daily activities immediately following treatment.
What happens after the treatment?
Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave. After your initial treatment, the treated hair will push its way to the surface and fall out. With each treatment, the hair in the active growing phase will be effectively treated. A follow up appointment is scheduled in 6 weeks after each treatment. Keep in mind the importance of maintaining your follow up appointments.
What are the possible side effects?
Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. We will discuss any and all potential side effects before the treatment and all post treatment directions after the treatment itself.
